Does OP1 have to be declared on packaging?
OP1 is HYGROSCOPIC which means it works immediately on contact with the product and then naturally dissipates soon after. It is a processing aid and there are no labelling requirements on packaging.
What is OP1 and is it safe and legal?
OP1 is a liquid blend of organic acids, vitamins and minerals of which all are passed by The Soil Association, The Food Standards Agency and all other relevant UK and European bodies for use on all fresh produce.
Does OP1 have any microbial effect?
There is some microbial effect however this is very limited. OP1 is not designed to have an effect on bacteria, yeasts or moulds but because of the nature of the ingredients it does reduce them.
What does OP1 do and how does it work?
OP1 dramatically extends the shelf life by retarding enzymic reactions and preventing moisture loss by inhibiting respiration and oxidisation.
Recommended concentration of OP1 and how to measure concentration of the treatment solution. This is dependant on which produce is treated and how much the shelf life is to be extended, generally OP1 is used at between 2% - 5% concentration. Concentration can be measured manually with an electronic meter or an automatic system can be used which monitors and doses accordingly.
Which produce can be treated with OP1?
OP1 was originally designed for peeled carrot products but it can also be used on a variety of different produce, not only organic but conventional produce too.
Does OP1 have any adverse reactions on treated produce?
OP1 leaves no taste or odour and does not effect the colour or texture in anyway, but simply leaves your valuable produce looking, feeling and tasting like you just prepared it, even after 10 days.
How is OP1 used?
OP1 should be mixed with fresh cold water and the products to be treated should be submersed for approximately 30 seconds, although dwell time is not a crucial factor. OP1 can be used in small tanks for batch treating or it can be used in mechanical systems such as flume washers.
